The INSITE team has partnered with artist Nicole Wächtler to give a playground a prettier and more personal look. Once the base coat has been applied, local residents (and their children) will be in charge of picking the colours for the new design. A project for strengthening community.
As part of a Social Day, the INSITE team spent a whole day volunteering at the Rödelheim-West playground in Frankfurt. Local residents are going to repaint the equipment. But first, the slides and climbing frames need cleaning, sanding and priming. INSITE sent over a team of colleagues who rolled up their sleeves and got to work.
The aim is to give the play area a more personal touch, and in particular to bring the local community together to create something new. Neighbourhood manager Heike Hecker has been working with artist Nicole Wächtler for several years and is thrilled at the initiative: "It will create a moment of creative re-imagination where visitors will notice that something has changed. You can feel the energy that this group endeavour has created."
Parts of the playground have already been redesigned in recent years. This year, there are plans to install three additional climbing frames as part of a holiday initiative. The neighbourhood is managed by the Diocese of Frankfurt and Offenbach, while the project is being financed by the City of Frankfurt and its "Initiative Frankfurt – Active Neighbourhoods".
Visitors to the playground can already enjoy the new design and came to watch the team hard at work.
