"Incredibly valuable help that works incredibly well"

INSITE partners with charity JOBLINGE

"What can we do to support you?" That's how INSITE's collaboration with the JOBLINGE initiative first began, some five years ago. It all started with a phone call from Dr Hansjörg Becker, CEO of EAP Provider INSITE. This gave birth to our pro bono employee assistance initiative, as well as some trainings.

"The EAP service is a great source of support for us and our employees and it just works," says Christina Schinz, Head of Marketing and Partner Loyalty for the JOBLINGE umbrella organisation, summing it up rather nicely.

The employee assistance programme allows employees to access professional support when things go wrong, either at work or at home. The initial conversation focuses on working out exactly what it is that the caller needs. They then get a call back from one of our experts or arrange a one-to-one.

JOBLINGE – Giving young people opportunities

The goal of JOBLINGE is to give young people who had a difficult start in life opportunities they wouldn't otherwise have had. The initiative brings together young people and businesses across the country. Thanks to an intensive six-month programme, 75% of participants who have been written off as having "few to no prospects" enter work or education. Partner companies, individual volunteers and public authorities create a strong network for these young people. Read more about the programme and its wonderful success stories on the JOBLINGE website.

INSITE wanted to support this initiative and has provided the organisation with an EAP service (Employee Assistance Programme) free of charge since 2014 as part of a nationwide partnership.

Particular challenges facing JOBLINGE

Concerns are reviewed anonymously and only allocated to very broad categories to ensure that all consultations are confidential. "But I know from my own conversations that some of the issues being raised with the advisors are about experiences of change and working with our mentees," explains Christina.

"I imagine that compared to other companies, our employees' concerns are less personal and are much more about company-related issues," Christina adds. One reason for this is how much the initiative has grown in just a short space of time: a new level was added to the hierarchy two years ago, for example, with the result that some colleagues suddenly found themselves in managerial positions. Employees also face particular challenges in their line of work.

"Another important aspect of working with our young people is learning how to distance yourself from your work, i.e. how can I, as a JOBLINGE employee, properly process the often incredibly traumatic experiences that our young people, some of whom are refugees, tell us about, while still remaining professional and maintaining my empathy."

The JOBLINGE ethos is about supporting young people, but it's also about challenging them and encouraging them to take certain actions in their lives and to keep on pushing themselves beyond their limits.

"I've used the service myself more than a few times and felt that both the initial consultation and my actual session with the experts went well and it was a fast process. This support is hugely valuable for our organisation.

"Healthy Management" seminars

INSITE also offered a variety of workshops on "Healthy Management". "The training really helped to make me aware of my own resources and to grow as a manager, a colleague and a person," says participant Nadine Crell from JOBLINGE Leipzig.
